Asterix and Obelix are on a rescue mission. The two must traverse far and wide, avoiding death traps, enemy soldiers and unfairly difficult level designs. I don’t know anything about their French comic series, but I know this game can be very frustrating. It’s a great test of patience. Not for those that lack perseverance.
Fortunately, you have unlimited continues. So push forward until you triumph over the tight platform jumping and rude obstacle placements. Like, really tight obstacles. Pixel perfect timed jumping. A lesser person can go mad, with how you must maneuver to reach your goals. It doesn’t help that the music is short and repetitive. I don’t mind simple music, but when you’re stuck on a difficult level, it takes it toll.
Don’t misconstrue me. It is not a bad game. Yes, the game is difficult, buy there is fun to be had here. The characters’ sprites are downright gorgeous too! So well done by the graphic artists. They look like they’re ripped right out of their comics. If you’re stuck on a level, switch from Asterix to Obelix. Each character has their own set of levels. Which adds to this game’s replay value. If you’re into self-punishment, complete the game twice with each character. There’s even a 2-player mode, so you can race with a friend to complete the quest.
If you like challenging games and have hours to pass, definitely pick up Asterix on the SEGA Master System. It’s RINA Approved! 💙 Just don’t lose your cool like I did by Round 7.
