It’s 8-Bit Altered Beast. Another SEGA Arcade Classic ported to the Master System. For everyone my age and younger, Altered Beast is about a warrior resurrected by Zeus and tasked to rescued his daughter, Athena. Collect three Power Ups to transform to your Beast form, then do battle with Neff, evil ruler of the Ancient Greece underworld. What else is there left to say? It’s classic Altered Beast. Sure, it’s downgraded from its arcade original, but it can make do for kids that wanted Altered Beast at home in the 80’s. My only complaints is that your character sprite takes up a lot of screen real estate, and the combat is clunky. But that’s always been Altered Beast. I'm sure some consider it apart of its charm and challenge.
This game isn’t bad. It’s just been over released by SEGA, to the point it has become mediocre. It is a major part of SEGA’s success and history as a company, so we can cut it some slack. It was a huge hit when it was released in the arcades back in the 80’s. If you’re curious, give it a play through. Just play patiently with the clunky controls and large character sprites.
