This is Aztec Adventure for the SEGA Master system. A top down action game with unique mechanics. You are an explorer named Nino, and you’re on a quest of sorts in the Aztec Empire. You can bribe your mercenary enemies to join you, if you have the cash, to aid you on your journey. Makes taking out other enemies easier. I think it’s a cool spin on the top down genre to make this game stand out.
The issues with this title is the stiff controls and your attack alignment. Nino doesn’t swing his sword wide or thrust center in front of him, like other popular games. You’ll be missing a lot of your enemies, because your attack is not in centered. Also, the music is awfully annoying. I spent a good hour on the first level, and the music got tiresome very quickly. You can get the hang of the controls like I did, but it defeats the principle of an enjoyable game experience.
This game isn’t terrible bad, but there are better games to play. The stiff controls and the bad music just make this game feel like a choir to play. If you’re a fan of the top down genre, and you want to experiment with something different, give it a try. Otherwise you can skip it and just play the Legend of Zelda for more fun.
