Baku Baku Animal is a port of an arcade falling block puzzle game. It’s a by the numbers basic game. Match two or more of the same blocks with a correlating animal block to eliminate them. When you eliminate blocks, you pass them to your opponent to have them lose the game.
The graphics are pre-rendered to match the more powerful releases of this title. To its credit, it’s an achievement to pull it off this well on the 8-Bit Master System. There’s a serviceable and cute plot for the game, but it’s slow on its delivery. The story mode DRAAAAAGGS…. I had to speed up my gameplay footage to make sure my viewers don’t get bored.
It’s not a bad game. The controls are fine. It’s a SEGA title, so the quality is high for the console’s capabilities. Graphics are rough, but it has a charm to it. I say if you’re curious or into niche puzzle classics, give it a try. It is a fun challenge once you get to the higher difficulty levels. You can do far worse when it comes to console puzzle games.
