the Adventures of Dr. Franken - Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)

Now this is special. Dr. Franken on the NES was never officially released to the public. It somehow had its rom was dumped into the internet, and now all can download and play it. Knowing it was never fully published, I'm forgiving all the flaws it has. And yes, there are many flaws with this unfinished game. Although not enough to consider it a bad game.

You play as Dr. Franken, and you are tasks to find all the pieces to your woman companion, Bitsy. You must search your home castle for her parts and activate the Life Machine to resurrect her. The castle is full of hazards and enemies, cause video game logic. All her pieces are hidden and locked in rooms. Find keys and get through obstacles in one life. Luckily, Dr. Franken is very tanky, so he can take a lot of hits. His own bedroom has a life recharging station, and there's plenty of life restoring power ups scattered in the castle. But don't be reckless or else it'll be game over.

Dr. Framken is very clunky to control. His jumps are short and stiff. I never jump high or accurate enough to avoid enemies. A lot of enemies are impervious to his projectile attack. There are unfairly placed traps you can't avoid, so you will take damage by them. The menu navigation and map to the castle is very cumbersome. It gets some getting use to. Again, this is an unreleased game, so there's no telling how unpolished it is.

If you're interested in unreleased games and enjoy scavenger hunts, then Dr. Franken can be a fun time. I was amused by it. I can see charm in this title, despite all its flaws. If this was officially published and distributed to the public, I'd be more critical on it. I say give it try and beat it, if you can find the Rom online.
